home Red Crown Historical Marker Dedication

What:
The Platte County Historical Society is dedicating a historical marker to honor those lawmen who participated in the shoot out with Bonnie and Clyde at the Red Crown Tavern and Tourist Camp near KCI. On July 19,1933 a coalition of law enforcement officers from Platte County Sheriff's office, Jackson County Sheriff's office and the Missouri Highway Patrol had the Barrow Gang surrounded in cabins behind the Red Crown. There were at least 13 lawmen, yet the Barrow gang escaped. Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker led the outlaws. Clyde's older brother, Buck, was mortally wounded. His wife, Blanche Barrow, received sevier cuts to her eyes from broken glass. Another outlaw was young W.D. Jones who escaped. The marker is in tribute to those lawmen who help to capture the killers, by failed. The marker is paid for solely by donations. Please come! The short program will have many antique cars and family members who care to remember the Red Crown!
